Finishing Mortar 7.7% - 250 Liters (2.5 hl)

Finishing mortar is a fine, washed sand (0-2 mm) mixed with 7.7% lime, primarily used for finish work, such as wall plastering. It’s also commonly used for repointing brick walls after removing old mortar.

The finished mortar is obtained by adding cement in the appropriate ratio for the specific task, and with delivery in bigbags, you get a product that is easy to access and has a better price per kilogram than buying mortar in small bags.

How Much Mortar Do I Need?

It’s challenging to give a precise answer for how much mortar you’ll need for a project, as it depends on the specific application. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Fine plastering: Approximately 200 liters of mortar per 100 m²
  • Coarse plastering: Approximately 1,700 liters of mortar per 100 m²
  • Repointing: 400 liters of mortar per 100 m²

How to Mix Mortar

When mixing mortar, thorough blending is essential. It’s highly recommended to borrow or rent a cement mixer for larger batches. For smaller quantities, a large builder’s bucket can work, but it requires consistent stirring.

Starting with a bit of water in the mixer is usually helpful. Then, add finishing mortar, cement (in the appropriate amount), and water, allowing it to mix thoroughly. You can gradually add water until you reach a workable consistency.

The amount of cement required may vary depending on your project, but a typical ratio is 1:8 (1 part cement to 8 parts mortar), resulting in a mixture suitable for most purposes.
