2. Extra Black - This is the darkest black chipping on the market, completely black and uniform in color. They are sourced from a small family business in Norway that only extracts in limited quantities each year, and only for a few months annually. Weight of Granite Chippings

Black granite chippings are heavy, being the densest type of chippings on the market. They weigh 1,700 kg per cubic meter. The advantage of their weight is that the chippings stay firmly in place in your surface.

What are Granite Chippings?

Granite chippings are sorted rock pieces primarily sourced from Norway and Sweden. In Denmark, granite is only found on Bornholm, but this type is mostly used for producing cobblestones, paving stones, and gravestones. Nearly all production of chippings on Bornholm has ceased, so most chippings come from Norway and Sweden. Our standard, high-quality black granite chippings are sourced from Norway, while our extra black version comes from Sweden. Large rock pieces are blasted and sorted into various sizes, one of which is the elegant 8-11 mm size.

How Thick Should a Layer of 8-11 mm Black Granite Chippings Be?

For black granite chippings in 8-11 mm, we recommend a total layer thickness of 5 cm. A 5 cm layer ensures optimal coverage and results. Some customers ask if 3 cm is sufficient, which is possible, but not recommended as it will not cover adequately and may appear unfinished. A 5 cm layer is the perfect and proper solution.

Where Can Black Granite Chippings 8-11 mm Be Used?

This size of chipping can be used in many places and is one of the most popular sizes on the market. Whether you need it for your patio, a flower bed, or as patio chippings, it is an excellent choice. The only place we do not recommend this size is in driveways, as the stones tend to get caught in car tires and may be displaced from the surface.

Granite Chippings vs. Weeds

Using black granite chippings 8-11 mm can help create a surface that is very resistant to weeds. The best way to achieve this is by first laying a weed barrier over the area. Then, add 3 cm of black stone dust and finally 4-5 cm of granite chippings. This method is highly effective in preventing weed growth. It is also advisable to compact the stone dust with a plate compactor after laying, to ensure a stable and even surface. Afterward, spread the chippings on top of the stone dust. Finally, compact or vibrate the chippings to ensure they lie evenly and firmly.

Delivery of Black Granite Chippings 8-11 mm

Granite chippings are heavy, so it is essential that they are delivered as close as possible to where you plan to use them, to make the work easier. Sidewalk/Driveway

Choose this delivery method if your chippings can be placed by the road, on your pavement, or at the beginning of your driveway. The transport driver will place them within this area, and you can specify in your order where you want them. For example, on the pavement, and our skilled driver will place them there. You don’t need to be at home during delivery; just ensure you provide a clear description of the desired placement.

Mobile Forklift

This extremely popular delivery method is often chosen by our customers. Our driver brings a self-propelled forklift, which can drive on gravel, shingle, and dry grass. It can transport the Maxibags down a gravel road or to your allotment. It is 2.3 meters wide and can turn in a very tight space.

Crane Delivery

For this delivery, our skilled driver will bring your order with a truck-mounted crane, which is ideal if you need the bags lifted over something, such as a hedge or fence. This is the option to choose if you require crane delivery.

Please note: Large crane trucks require ample space. There must be a clearance of 4.5 meters in height and 4 meters in width all the way from the main road to the delivery address. The crane can reach up to 7-8 meters away from the truck.
